What is the Arch Cup Piano Festival?

The Arch Cup Festival is an event held every fall on the campus of Webster University.  Founder, piano teacher Caroline Hixon, created the event to offer a low key, positive experience for K through 12 students to perform in.  It is a wonderful chance for the piano student to perform to the best of their ability for someone other than their own teacher, & receive positive & constructive feedback.    The student thoroughly learns & memorizes one piano piece to be performed for a judge, i.e. a highly experienced piano teacher.

How does the student benefit from the festival?

Besides receiving positive feedback, in the form of a comment sheet, they receive a rating.

Each student will receive adjudication comments and a rating (Gold, Silver, or Bronze). Depending on the rating students may receive a trophy, ribbon, or certificate.

Am I allowed to be in the room, during the performance?

The only ones in the room during the performing are the student, judge & judge’s assistant.  BUT, it is very easy to hear the playing through the door.

Is the student competing against other students?

The Arch Cup Festival is NOT  a competition, but rather a way for the student to challenge themselves to thoroughly prepare music, widen their piano experience, & receive feedback from expert teachers. The beauty of the festival is that this is a low stress environment in which to perform,  as the students are normally well prepared.  But also because the judges want to instill confidence and pride in the students in their festival experience.

Is there a fee?

There is a fee per student of $20.00
